The Cleveland Browns had to make a move on Tuesday that ended one of their player’s seasons. Backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson injured himself during Sunday’s rout of the Houston Texans. DTR came into the game with the score well in hand and Joe Flacco on the bench. But Thompson-Robinson’s relief appearance was cut short by his injury.

Disappointingly, Thompson-Robinson’s season is over. The Browns placed the former UCLA quarterback on injured reserve on Tuesday afternoon.

Cleveland announced that they put DTR on IR on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

“We’ve placed QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson on injured reserve,” the team said. The Browns also made a corresponding move to sign quarterback P.J. Walker back to the active roster.

Thompson-Robinson got limited action in his rookie season in Cleveland. After Deshaun Watson injured himself and lost his season, DTR, Walker, and Flacco have all seen sporadic time. Flacco has recently gotten the hot hand and is driving the Browns to the postseason. The former UCLA standout will finish his rookie season with one touchdown thrown, four interceptions, and 433 passing yards.

The hope for him, obviously, is that he finds a way to catch on in 2024. He’ll have the odds against him as a backup quarterback. However, if one thing is for certain, there’s always a market for quarterbacks. Even if you wind up being waived by one of them, there’s still a shot that you’ll end up back around.

The NFL world reacted to the news.
