The Cleveland Browns appear to be set in terms of their starting quarterback of the future with controversial star Deshaun Watson. However, they made a move on Monday to sure up their depth in the position.
Cleveland had reliable backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett last season, who started in all 11 games that Deshaun Watson was suspended last year. He signed with the Washington Commanders this offseason, forcing the team to go elsewhere in terms of backup quarterback options.
The agent of veteran quarterback Joshua Dobbs revealed on Twitter that his client has agreed to terms with the Browns on a one-year contract

Many took notice of the move and thought that it was a good signing for Cleveland to help fill out their quarterback room.

It doesn’t take Rocket Appliances to be the Browns backup. But it helps! Glad to have Josh Dobbs back.

Dobbs actually spent much of last season with the Browns before being waived once Watson returned from suspension. He was then claimed by the Tennessee Titans where he received his first opportunity to start due to an injury to Ryan Tannehill.
He started two games for Tennessee, one of which even being a game with a potential playoff birth on the line. While the team lost both games, he showed a decent account for himself in extremely difficult circumstances.
He will now back up Deshaun Watson, who he is reportedly good friends with. According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the two have trained together since high school and even share the same private quarterbacks’ coach.
Cleveland will obviously hope that Dobbs isn’t needed because that likely means that Deshaun Watson got hurt. Regardless, Dobbs has now proven that he can be serviceable when called upon.
