When the Carolina Panthers selected Bryce Young with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, they undoubtedly saw him as their immediate starter and wanted to get him as many reps as possible in his first season. But it looks like that plan is already having some problems as the rookie quarterback is now expected to miss some time with an ankle injury.

On Friday afternoon, Panthers head coach Frank Reich formally announced that quarterback Bryce Young would not play in Sunday afternoon’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, and he made it clear that he could miss more time than that, too.

“Docs are saying one-to-two weeks,” Reich said in his press conference. “I think Bryce has done well this week. I’m optimistic that he’s on the right path, that whatever the soonest he can get back is, he will get back. And when he gets back and when he’s cleared, he’s our guy and he’ll be ready to go.”

Reich did not rule out the possibility of Young returning for next week’s game against the Vikings, but it’s never great news when your rookie quarterback you hope to lead your team for years to come is already missing games with injuries this early in his career, especially when there were already concerns about his durability heading into the league.
