Last season, defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier called and designed the defense for the Buffalo Bills. But after his departure this offseason, those duties will now fall on head coach Sean McDermott. And it sounds like he’s pretty excited to take on the role.

Sean Mcdermott spent eight years as an NFL defensive coordinator before becoming a head coach. And following the team’s preseason debut this weekend, he made it clear that he enjoyed having his old job back.

“It was fun. It was fun to be back out there and kind of roll up my sleeves a little bit,” McDermott said according to ABC-13. “Still working through the communication piece. A preseason game’s a little bit different than a regular season game, but we’ll go back just like we do with the players and evaluate that and talk about some areas that we’ve got to improve on. It’s just kind of getting on the same cadence.”

Obviously, it will be a pretty big change for the Bills and McDermott as he now has to figure out how to balance between his head coaching duties and calling the defense, but he’s certainly not the first coach to ever try it.

We’ll have to see how this change affects the team.
