The Arizona Cardinals announced that running back James Conner is expected to miss several weeks due to an injury. The team placed the running back on injured reserve.

Conner injured his knee in the Cardinals’ 34-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The injury occurred on Conner’s 35-yard run in the second quarter.

He had twisted his knee when he planted his foot in the ground, according to Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon. Before his injury, Connor was well on his way to having 100 yards in the game, he had 46 yards at the time.

This is yet another blow to the Cardinals backfield as they also lost backup Keaontay Ingram recently to a neck injury. The Cardinals also decided to sign Tony Jones Jr., who used to play with the New Orleans Saints.

The Cardinals are 1-4, with their only victory coming against the Dallas Cowboys two weeks ago. Now, the team suffers yet another devasting loss on offense. Quarterback Joshua Dobbs had a tough task ahead of him this season with the roster around him. Now, without a veteran asset around him, the task may have gotten even more unenviable.

Conner was having a good year with the Birds averaging almost 73 yards per game before he got injured. He was the third-round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017 before moving to the Cardinals in 2021.
