As the New York Jets find themselves without Aaron Rodgers for the remainder of the season after his torn Achilles in Monday’s season-opener, their plan at quarterback for the rest of the season is unclear.

New York turned to backup quarterback Zach Wilson after Rodgers got hurt and the Jets pulled out a 22-16 overtime victory, but they’ve also been in talks with various free-agent quarterbacks.

While his name hasn’t come up in any reports, former Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Wentz is waiting for his phone to ring, per his Instagram.

Carson Wentz is hoping to latch on with the Jets.

Wentz took a break from his hunting show with his brother to post “Throwin’ darts in the woods while waiting to throw dates on Sundays” on his Instagram story.

The second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Wentz’s career has been marred by injuries and inconsistent play. He played at a near-MVP level in the 2017 season, throwing 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions in 13 games for the Philadelphia Eagles before a late-season torn ACL ended his season and kept him on the sidelines for Philly’s Super Bowl run.

Wentz was never quite the same player after the injury, and in the spring of 2021, he was dealt to the Colts. He threw for 3,500 yards and 27 touchdowns, but after just one season, Indianapolis dealt him to the Washington Commanders. Wentz played just eight games for Washington and had 11 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He was released following the 2022 season and didn’t draw much interest in the offseason.

It’s unlikely that the Jets call Wentz, but at just 30 years old he’d be one of the youngest quarterbacks with multiple years of experience that New York could bring in.
