It’s safe to say that Carson Wentz has not seen his career go the way he expected since he was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft as he found himself out of the NFL completely throughout most of this season. But now he’s got a chance with the Los Angeles Rams, serving as Matthew Stafford’s backup, and it sounds like he’s happy about the opportunity.

During a press conference this week, Carson Wentz made it clear that while he would much prefer to be a starting quarterback in the league – just like everyone else – he’s just happy about the chance and is going to do everything he can to help the Rams.

“We all desire to be the guy playing, don’t get me wrong,” Wentz said according to the Los Angeles Rams team website. “I think everyone would be lying to you if they said differently, but we all also know it’s a hard business, it’s a hard league, and just to be on a team, to be around the guys, is a blessing regardless. So I’m thankful for that opportunity, and I’ll help in whatever way I can and I’m going to be ready. I don’t have to worry about next year, I don’t worry about the following years, I can just be where my feet are and have as much fun as I can and help as much as I can.”

As the backup quarterback, Wentz likely won’t get a chance to play unless Stafford suffers an injury. But Stafford did miss the end of last season after he was placed on injured reserve. If that happens again, Wentz could be thrust into action – and it sounds like he’ll be ready.
