The Kansas City Chiefs and their fans don’t have to worry about losing star defensive tackle Chris Jones to free agency. In fact, they don’t even have to worry about Jones getting to free agency.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday night that Jones and the Chiefs agreed to a five-year deal that will guarantee Jones $95 million.

Schefter reported that the “Deal is expected to be the highest average salary ever given to an NFL defensive tackle.” Jones’ agency, Katz Brothers Sports, confirmed the same thing in a tweet.

Jones also shared a photo with the caption, “KC….5 more years of greatness! 3x.”

While the Kansas City offense has generally received much of the attention and credit during the team’s current run, Jones and the defense were at least every bit as important in 2023. The Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII despite not scoring 30 points in any of their four playoff games.

Jones, who will be 30 in June, has been a key part of all three of the team’s Super Bowl championships since 2019. He’s earned Pro Bowl honors in each of the last five seasons and is a five-time All-Pro, receiving Second-team honors in 2018, 2020 and 2021 and First-team honors in 2022 and 2023.
