The Cincinnati Bengals found themselves in a pretty unfortunate situation this week with star quarterback Joe Burrow out for the season with a wrist injury, and the team made a roster move this week that they’ll obviously hope will add a little bit of depth to the quarterback position while Burrow is out.

According to a report from league insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Cincinnati Bengals are adding quarterback Drew Blitt to the roster to serve as the team’s third quarterback behind Jake Browning and A.J. McCarron.

“With Joe Burrow out for the season, the #Bengals brought back a familiar face: Drew Plitt has re-signed to the practice squad, his second stint with the team. So this the QB room in Cincinnati moving forward: Jake Browning, AJ McCarron and Drew Plitt,” Pelissero said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

The NFL world had a lot to say about the move on social media.

Blitt, who played in the XFL in Arlington last season after he was cut by the Bengals, would likely only see the field in an emergency capacity for the Bengals, but it’s necessary to have those sorts of contingency plans.
