The Cincinnati Bengals almost certainly won’t achieve their championship aspirations without a healthy Joe Burrow calling the shots at quarterback.

Burrow suffered what the team described as a calf strain after rolling to his right and falling to the ground without contact in training camp.

Head coach Zac Taylor said Burrow is expected to miss “several weeks” as he rehabs the injury.

Taylor and offensive coordinator Brian Callahan provided an update Friday night after the Bengals fell to the Green Bay Packers, 36-19, in their first preseason contest.

“He’s progressing as he should,” Taylor said after the game, according to Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer. “Everything’s been positive.”

“He’s been rehabbing quite a bit,” Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan said after the joint practice, according to ESPN. “He’s doing a good job, and to have him out at practice is always beneficial. Guys like seeing him, too. I think you saw everybody excited to have him out, standing around watching.”

Burrow didn’t speak with the media following his team’s preseason loss.

No official word yet on if Burrow will play when the Bengals head north for their first game of the season on Sept. 10th against their AFC North rivals, the Cleveland Browns.
