The Cincinnati Bengals diverted total disaster with the calf injury to quarterback Joe Burrow. But they’re still looking at going through a large swath of time without their MVP-caliber quarterback.

Burrow created a scare on Thursday when he went to the ground without contact while rolling to his right in practice. Burrow was unable to stand on his own volition, and the Bengals’ medical team used a cart to transport him off the field.

Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase said after practice that Burrow nodded in his direction, which to him meant that Burrow meant he would be “all good.”

The Bengals announced on Friday that Burrow suffered a calf strain in the incident. The next question became, how long will Burrow miss?

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said on Friday that he expects Burrow to miss “several weeks,” according to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter. When asked if that means the Bengals are looking at playing regular season games without Burrow, Taylor only reiterated that he expected Burrow to be out for “several games.”

The Bengals are set to play on the road in Week 1 with an AFC matchup to start the season against the Cleveland Browns. As of now, it’s unclear if Burrow will be able to make the start.

The NFL world was quick to react to the horrible Bengals news:
