The Cincinnati Bengals almost certainly won’t be able to achieve their Super Bowl ambitions without a healthy Joe Burrow at quarterback.

Burrow suffered what the franchise is calling a calf strain last week while scrambling to his right in practice. Burrow fell to the ground without being touched. Medical staff quickly carted him off the field.

Head coach Zac Taylor, when originally asked about Burrow’s status, said the Bengals would be without their All-Pro quarterback for “several weeks.” When asked if that meant Burrow would miss time during the regular season, Taylor stuck to his “several weeks” timeline.

Burrow was seen walking normally on the sidelines during a Bengals practice earlier this week. While that might be seen as good news for Bengals fans, Taylor refused to budge from his “several weeks” timeline when asked for an update on Friday.

“Still several weeks from when I (initially) said,” Taylor told reporters. Taylor originally issued that timeline on July 28th.

The Bengals are set to begin their 2023 preseason against the new-look Green Bay Packers on Friday night. The Bengals begin their regular season on the road against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 10th.

While it’s not for certain, many league observers expect Burrow to be ready to play in Week 1 action.
