Questions about the health of Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson probably won’t be answered until kickoff Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said earlier this week he’s “hopeful” Watson can play despite missing an entire week of practice due to an injury to his throwing shoulder suffered in a Week 3 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Nevertheless, the Browns are adding some depth to the quarterback position ahead of its third AFC North clash of the season. The Browns promoted quarterback P.J. Walker from the practice squad on Saturday.

“Walker (5-11, 215) is officially in his fourth NFL season out of Temple,” the Cleveland Browns noted in their release.

“Originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2017, he spent time on the Colts’ practice squad from 2017-19 and with XFL’s Houston Roughneck’s in 2019, before joining the Panthers in 2020. During his time in Carolina, he appeared in 15 games with seven starts. Walker completed 131 of 228 passes for 1,461 yards and five touchdowns. He spent training camp this year with the Bears and has spent the entire season on the Browns’ practice squad. Walker will wear No. 10.”

If Watson is unable to start, backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who played well throughout the preseason, will likely get his first career start with Walker serving as his backup.
