Colin Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season after he claimed he was blackballed from the league as a result of his iconic national anthem protests. Since then, several quarterbacks have emerged in the league that he thinks resemble his style of play.

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Colin Kaepernick pointed out that there are now more dual-threat quarterbacks in the league than when he played, pairing a strong arm with mobility. And one guy topped his list of quarterbacks he enjoys watching: Patrick Mahomes.

“[Patrick Mahomes] tops the list,” Kaepernick told Sports Illustrated. “Jalen Hurts, what he did last year, really coming into his own. You look at Lamar [Jackson], Josh Allen. A lot of very talented quarterbacks out there playing at high levels. I’m excited to see them continue to do their thing, and I hope I get to stand on the opposing sideline and go toe to toe with them.”

Kaepernick also made it clear that even though he has not played in nearly seven years, he is still seeking a chance in the NFL and he still believes he has what it takes to play quarterback at the highest level.

Based on the way the game has changed in favor of dual-threat quarterbacks, perhaps a team will be willing to give him an opportunity.
