The Indianapolis Colts have waived linebacker Shaq Leonard, and the four-time All-Pro is expected to garner keen interest around the NFL for his services.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday afternoon that the Colts had waived the star, who has seen his playing time dip this season and spoke out on the issue.

Leonard is still owed $6.1 million for the remainder of the season, so he will almost certainly clear waivers, allowing a team to sign him for the league minimum, with the Colts paying the remainder.

Leonard had a tough 2022 season, suffering through back issues, then a concussion and broken nose, then more back issues. He appeared in only three games. He also shared his struggle with mental health during his down year.

The linebacker shared a message for fans on X/Twitter after being waived, saying in part, “These last six years have been incredible … through the good times and bad time y’all stood by my side.”

Stats don’t tell the whole story, but they give a glimpse into his current state. Leonard averaged 11 tackles per game in his best season, when he was NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2018. He averaged 10 tackles in his last three games with Indy this year.

So where will Leonard finish the season? X/Twitter had some thoughts.
