The Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott are no closer to a new deal, it seems. In fact, both the Cowboys and Prescott reportedly came to an understanding about their status going into a pivotal 2024 season.

The Cowboys still haven’t made the NFC Championship Game since 1995. Despite several teams that proved capable, the Cowboys have continued to disappoint their fans in January. It hasn’t mattered who’s been at quarterback, as Prescott has eaten some particularly tough losses over the past few seasons. This past year, the Green Bay Packers shellacked the Cowboys in Dallas in a jarring blowout that had people questioning if this core should stick together.

They are going to do that in 2024… but what comes after that is in doubt.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport brought everyone up to speed on Prescott and the Cowboys’ current situation.

“The Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott have a mutual understanding of his contract situation,” Rapoport said. “With no offers from Dallas despite him being in a contract year. Owner Jerry Jones said, ‘We are where we are, locked and loaded for this year.’ No indication a deal is coming.”

Rapoport reported the news first on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

Prescott became the latest Cowboys superstar quarterback after the team drafted him in 2016. He replaced Tony Romo and helped lead the Cowboys to the 2016 NFL Playoffs. But Green Bay did them in then too. And since then, the Cowboys have follied their way through the postseason. They lost to the San Francisco 49ers a season ago on the road in a game that ended in humiliating fashion. Then there was the humiliation of this year.

So, with that in mind, it makes you wonder what to expect from the Cowboys in 2025. There could be a new face of the franchise.
