Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of conversation about the way new Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy coaches his team, with some suggesting it’s a little tougher than players are used to. But that doesn’t seem to bother wide receiver Curtis Samuel.

During a recent interview, Curtis Samuel made it clear that he is not bothered by his offensive coordinator’s level of intensity, saying it’s like he’s back playing in college football again.

“He’s a tough coach but nothing I’m not used to — it’s like a college environment,” Samuel said according to Pro Football Talk. “When you’ve got a coach like that that’s being tough and hard on you, he wants the best out of you. He’s not doing it for ego purpose or his own benefit, he wants the best out of you. And I feel like doing that kind of stuff brings the best out of players. I love it.”

Samuel is likely used to intense coaching like this from his college days with the Ohio State Buckeyes under head coach Urban Meyer, who took a notoriously intense approach with his players.

But while Meyer’s approach clearly worked at the college level – after all, he won three national titles as a head coach – it didn’t seem to go over well during his very brief stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars as he was fired before completing even one season.

It will be interesting to see how Bieniemy’s approach works for the Commanders.
