Whether it’s Tony Romo, Dak Prescott, or any number of gunslingers that have taken the field before them, the spotlight is always on the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. In the case of Prescott, the discussion around his game is the most volatile, as debates about his ability to play quarterback in the National Football League have become intellectually dishonest at best.

The word on Prescott coming into the 2023 NFL season is that the 30-year-old struggled with turnovers. That reared its ugly head in a 42-10 drubbing at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5, as Prescott threw a season-high three interceptions in the lopsided defeat. But since then, Prescott has been otherworldly and has put himself right, smack in the middle of the MVP discussion.

That only continued in Week 13, as Prescott completed 29-of-41 attempts for 299 yards with three touchdowns in a 41-35 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

As NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk notes, Prescott completed 68.9 percent of his passes for 1,597 yards with 16 touchdowns against just one interception in five November games. Pretty good, right?

And yet, Prescott has still dealt with his fair share of criticism.

After leading the league in interceptions (15) a season before, Prescott said that he doesn’t feel a sense of vindication against those who have doubted him. Naturally, he has a lot of haters. It comes with the territory of being the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. And yet, he’s in control of his narrative and might just write an MVP season when it’s all said and done.

“There is no difference when they are hating me and calling for me and my position,” Prescott said, via PFT. “I am super blessed, and I think about that each and every day. When I wake up, I am grateful for that opportunity to do that. I understand that no one’s opinion defines me and that is the great part about life. That’s the great opportunity that we have, that people can say whatever they want.

“I have the pen; I have the paper; and I am the one writing. Because I am playing as well as I am now, it doesn’t mean I am going to stop or listen to them now. I appreciate them, but I don’t care about their opinions right now anymore than I did when they were calling for my spot. As I said, I am blessed, this last year has been a reflection of that. A lot of great things have happened in my life and are going to continue to happen in my life because of my mindset and where I put the value of life.”
