The New Orleans Saints didn’t quite live up to expectations this year under first-year head coach Dennis Allen, finishing the season with a 7-10 record and missing the playoffs. But even though there was some talk and speculation that Allen might be fired after just one season with the team, it sounds like that’s not going to happen.

During his postgame press conference following the 10-7 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Dennis Allen revealed that he is planning as if he will be the team’s head coach next season and has had preliminary conversations with the team’s general manager.

“Amid some talk that Allen could be one-and-done after going 7-10 in his first year on the job, Allen told reporters today that he is planning as if he will remain the Saints’ head coach for the 2023 season,” Smith wrote on Pro Football Talk on Monday morning. “Allen said no one has specifically assured him that he will be back, and he acknowledged that the results on the field weren’t good enough. But he also said he and General Manager Mickey Loomis have already met to begin the planning for the upcoming season.”

Even though it wasn’t quite the season the team likely hoped to have, there’s still plenty to build on for the Saints heading into 2023.
