The Denver Broncos certainly didn’t imagine a 5-12 season and last-place finish in the AFC West when they traded for former Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson.

But that’s exactly what happened as Wilson looked like one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL during large swaths of play last season.

The Broncos fired coach Nathaniel Hackett and hired former New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, himself a former Super Bowl champion as well.

Payton’s first order of business will be righting the play of Wilson. And while there are months to go until we see the new-look Broncos on the field, Wilson is already getting a vote of support from wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.

“Just his mentality. Russ is a soldier,” Jeudy explained to the official Broncos website. “So just the way he handles his business, the way he handles situations, I just know the type of guy he is and the stuff that he can overcome. In the situations like that, that don’t put no fear into a man’s heart. And I know that this year, he got a big year coming ahead.”

Only time will tell how Wilson performs this season, but if he can recapture his old form, the Broncos will almost certainly do better than last season’s performance.
