Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry (22) celebrates his 76-yard touch down against the Bills at Nissan Stadium Monday, Oct. 18, 2021 in Nashville, Tenn. Titans Bills 098

The Tennessee Titans are currently looking at the No. 1 seed in the AFC for the NFL playoffs, which is quite the accomplishment given that they lost star running back Derrick Henry to a broken bone in his right foot at the end of October.

It was hoped that Henry, who had 937 yards and 11 total touchdowns in eight games before the injury, would return in time for the playoffs. However, that was no guarantee either, especially as the Titans faded briefly down the playoff ranking ladder.

According to comments by Titans head coach Mike Vrabel on Monday, it’s entirely possible that Henry could be back at practice very soon, which implies he’d be available for the playoffs.

“We’ve discussed it. We’ll see where that goes,” Vrabel said Monday. “He’s doing some work today. We’ll see when that window opens. We’ll probably make a decision midweek.”

Per ESPN, the Titans will have a 21-day practice window to activate Henry once he’s designated for return to practice. While the Titans would love to ensure a win this Sunday against the Houston Texans, which would cement the top seed in the AFC and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, it does not sound as though Henry would return to action in time for that. But if they do win, that means they lock in a first-round bye, which gives Henry even more time to recover and get ready.

In the meantime, the rest of the NFL has been put on notice about Henry’s potential return and there were lots of opinions about it on social media.
