The Cleveland Browns will be without starting quarterback Deshaun Watson for a second straight game when they take on the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6.

But the quarterback’s return to the field might come soon after Sunday’s game.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that Watson is “dealing with a deep rotator cuff contusion that  is dealing with a deep rotator cuff contusion that has made it difficult for him to drive the football when he throws.” Despite that, he added that “there is a belief that the Browns’ QB could be ready to play as soon as next Sunday against the Colts, per sources.”

The report was met with a great deal of skepticism and confusion.

The Browns are 2-2 heading into their Week 6 showdown against the 5-0 49ers. While Cleveland is 2-1 with Watson under center, his performance has been inconsistent. He’s completed 63.7% of his passes for 678 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. As a rusher, Watson has picked up 83 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown and two fumbles, one lost.

PJ Walker will start for the Browns on Sunday in Watson’s absence. Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson was under center during Cleveland’s 28-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4.
