The Atlanta Falcons are heading into the 2023 NFL season with second-year quarterback Desmond Ridder in full control of the offense as the starter. And even though he has played just a handful of games at the NFL level, it sounds like the coaches have full trust in him already.

During a recent press conference, Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith praised Desmond Ridder of his decision-making ability, pointing out that he’s actually making good decisions with the football and not just relying on his athleticism and throwing ability.

“That was pretty solid,” Smith said according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “There are a lot of things to coach off, but Des has done a good job. … A lot of time they can complete a ball and make a poor decision that you can get away with in practice. But I think his decision-making has been pretty damn good. I think his techniques are certainly improving and that’s the name of the game.”

While it’s certainly important to have talent and athleticism, decision-making ability is much more vital for quarterbacks at the NFL level, so it’s good for the Falcons that Ridder is showing this already.
