Former Pro Bowl quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has yet to sign with a team in free agency as he searches for the right landing spot. He made his first step in potentially signing with a team on Monday, visiting a somewhat surprising team.

The Detroit Lions made a big move this offseason to sure up their backup quarterback position, along with giving them a development quarterback of the future. They selected Tennessee Volunteers star quarterback Hendon Hooker in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Some assumed that Hooker would compete for the No. 2 quarterback spot right away, but instead, it looks like he will be absent through at least training camp as he rehabs from his torn ACL suffered near the end of his season at Tennessee. The team recently placed him on Reserve/Non-Football Injury List to begin training camp.

This has seemingly opened the door to the Lions at least considering bringing in some more depth at the position in training camp. The team hosted Teddy Bridgewater for a visit on Monday.

Bridgewater has proven to be a serviceable option at the quarterback position if called upon. He started two games for the Miami Dolphins last season, albeit both in a losing effort.

Even with Hooker’s injury situation coming into play, it is at least somewhat surprising that the Lions are considering bringing in another quarterback.

Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson recently spoke about the team’s quarterback room, saying he “loves the QB room” they currently have with Jared Goff, Hendon Hooker, Nate Sudfeld, and Adrian Martinez.
