Since the end of the regular season, the New York Jets have made it increasingly clear that they plan to sign a veteran quarterback this offseason and are willing to pay or give up whatever it takes to do so. And it’s not only the organization; some players are willing to do their part.

Free agent quarterback Derek Carr has presented himself as a suitable option for New York’s quarterbacking woes. The longtime Las Vegas Raiders QB visited with the team over the weekend. All indications are the meeting went well. If Carr does end up choosing the Jets though, his prized No. 4 — which he’s worn for the entirety of his NFL career — is already currently occupied by a current Jets player and a star one at that.

However, if D.J. Reed’s Twitter interactions are any indication, the 26-year-old cornerback would be willing to negotiate with Carr for the No. 4.

“We can always negotiate,” Reed tweeted Monday.

Luckily for Reed, his teammate and fellow defensive back, Will Parks, is willing to broker the deal on his behalf. Parks said that he’ll hit up Carr immediately and take a 39% cut (he wears No. 39). Though, it doesn’t sound like Reed wants to deal with any middle men in this hypothetical scenario.

Not only did Carr have a great meeting with the Jets, but if he wants to continue to wear the No. 4 in The Big Apple — it’s his. He just might have to meet some of Reed’s demands.
