The Miami Dolphins celebrated a huge win over the rival New England Patriots on Sunday night. Miami’s 24-17 victory over the Patriots improved the team to 2-0 on the young season. It was an impressive win amid a stretch of dominance for the Dolphins over their rivals to the north. Running back Raheem Mostert managed to shine in the victory. Mostert ran for 121 yards and two rushing touchdowns, one of them a spectacular play for absurd reasons.

It turns out that the former track star runs very fast. Mostert’s 43-yard touchdown saw him speed down the field and into the end zone. NFL’s Next Gen Stats account clocked him at 21.62 miles per hour. That’s the second-fastest speed for any ballcarrier this season behind… you guessed it: Fellow Miami Dolphin Tyreek Hill.

“Super speed,” the Dolphins posted to boast about their running back’s epic speed.

The former Purdue Boilermaker, who went undrafted in 2015, has a history of running very fast. Mostert won the gold medal at Purdue in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash at the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships. That year, he also qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

So it’s no surprise that Mostert has taken that speed and made something of it. He joins an illustrious list of track stars who’ve played football, including the legendary “Bullet” Bob Hayes and former Super Bowl champion Willie Gault.

While he’s played for six teams, Mostert gained the most success with both the Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers. Mostert ran wild in the 2019 NFC Championship Game with a scorching 220-yard performance with four rushing touchdowns. He’s racked up 2,659 career rushing yards over 77 career games in the NFL.

The NFL world later reacted to the absurd news on Raheem Mostert and the Miami Dolphins.
