Democratic Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock defeated Republican Herschel Walker in their head-to-head runoff election on Dec. 8th. Though Georgia has yet to officially certify the election, Walker conceded the race while trailing by more than 100,000 votes in the unofficial count.

He drew support from an unlikely source Tuesday night: Legendary Buffalo Bills and Boston College Eagles quarterback Doug Flutie, who went so as far to offer words of encouragement at the Herschel Walker campaign’s last rally:

“I’m so proud of him, we’re all so proud of him for all he’s gone through and what he’s done,” Flutie said of Walk, his “brother for life,” according to Fox News.

“He gave it everything he had from day one, and he did it all for the right reasons. He cares about this state, and he cares about this country.”

Flutie’s comments drew sharp criticism online, and the former quarterback has since officially refused to respond.

Flutie last played in the NFL in 1990. He was one of many celebrities to campaign in the race, including the likes of former presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama, current president Joe Biden, and even Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

Georgia will officially certify the election in the coming weeks.
