Transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, who is at the center of the ongoing Bud Light boycott controversy, said it’d be “epic” to one day appear in a beer advertisement during the Super Bowl.
Speaking in a wide-ranging interview with The Cut, Mulvaney confessed that the Bud Light controversy had be a “huge wake-up call” for her.
“Maybe it’d be epic … if in like 10 years I got to do a beer commercial for a Super Bowl,” Mulvaney said.
The influencer also admitted to nativity about the realities of how a transgender woman like herself would be viewed in the public eye.
“I think that some trans elders probably looked at me this last year and were like, [expletive word]. You have so far to go.’ I think they probably saw what has happened to me these last few months coming,” Mulvaney said.
“This was a good wake-up call for me. Now I’m a more realistic person.”
Mulvaney also said that the controversy would look much different with hindsight in 10 years.
“I think hopefully years from now we’ll look back on this time period and be like, ‘What the [expletive] was that?’” Mulvaney told the magazine, adding that she believes she could eventually charm some of her haters into liking her.
The world was quick to react to the surprising statement:
