It was quite likely that Evan Engram was going to play in Jacksonville again this year, with the Jaguars placing the franchise tag on him in March. But he’s now signed a contract keeping him there for this season and two more, with that contract coming one day ahead of the deadline for franchise-tagged players to work out long-term deals. And that will be quite the pay jump from the one-year, $9 million contract he signed with Jacksonville as a free agent ahead of last season. Jordan Schultz of The Score reported that news Sunday:

Engram then announced that himself:

Last season with the Jaguars, Engram posted career highs in both receptions (73) and receiving yards (766) on 98 targets while also recording four touchdowns. He appeared in all 17 of Jacksonville’s games, starting 14.

2022 was Engram’s first season with the Jaguars following five with the New York Giants. That team selected him in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft following his college career at Ole Miss. Over his time with the Giants, Engram posted 262 receptions for 2,828 yards and 16 touchdowns. In 2020, he earned a Pro Bowl selection after making 63 catches for 654 yards and a touchdown.

With Engram signing this deal, only three franchise-tagged players remain without long-term contract extensions. Those are Dallas Cowboys’ RB Tony Pollard, Las Vegas Raiders’ RB Josh Jacobs, and Giants’ RB Saquon Barkley.
