Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III shocked the world when he decided to plead guilty in his DUI case. According to ESPN, Ruggs unconditionally waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Tuesday. They will plead guilty to one count of DUI resulting in death and one count of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in a 2021 case where he’s accused of killing a woman in a car crash.

Ruggs was drunk and going 156 miles per hour when he killed a woman and her dog.

If the deal is accepted, Ruggs would only serve 3 to 10 years in a Nevada state prison. A former hearing will be held on May 10, where Ruggs is officially expected to plead guilty.

Ruggs did attend the first hearing and said he understood what he was doing when asked by the court.

Ruggs’ attorneys then spoke out on his behalf.

“This is the first step toward a fair resolution to this matter, and we look forward to closure for all the parties involved,” said David Z. Chesnoff and Richard A. Schonfeld.

Since the accident almost two years ago, Ruggs has been on house arrest. The only time Ruggs was allowed to leave home was to go work out.

If Henry Ruggs didn’t plead guilty, he could have faced anywhere from two to 50 years in prison.
