The struggles of New York Giants starting quarterback Daniel Jones have been well-documented this season. And some Giants fans are now calling for veteran backup Tyrod Taylor to permanently start in his place. However, it seems like Giants head coach Brian Daboll has other plans.

Jones missed Week 6 with a neck injury, leading to Tyrod Taylor starting his first game of the season for New York. The Giants fell short against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, but Taylor had the Giants offense actually looking competent at points of the game, which has been a rarity for the Giants this season.

Despite Taylor’s steady play, Daboll made it clear while talking to reporters on Monday that Jones is the starter once he is healthy enough to return to the field.

“Yeah, no,” said Daboll when he was asked directly if there was a “quarterback controversy” going on with the Giants.

Daboll also added that he has no update on Jones and whether he will potentially be available to return in Week 7.

It’s somewhat surprising that Daboll dismissed the idea of Taylor starting so nonchalantly, especially because we have seen Daboll and Jones at odds several times this season.

Taylor also wasn’t free of mistakes on Sunday night in his own right, as he was responsible for one of the worst clock management moments of the season for the Giants.

Taylor may have one more chance in Week 7 to prove himself to Daboll if Jones is still too injured to play. But it seems pretty clear that Daniel Jones is the long-term starter for the rest of the season in New York once he returns.
