NFL insider Rich Eisen heard plenty of rumors at the NFL Scouting Combine, but one in particular could shake up the NFL Draft.

“I heard at the combine … the Giants are absolutely done with Daniel Jones. Done,” Eisen said Monday on The Rich Eisen Show. “Might have to play him this year, but that ain’t it.”

This is a stunning turn of events from March 2023, when the Giants signed the quarterback to a four-year, $160 million extension, based largely on the team’s playoff run in 2022.

Yet the news is not so surprising given Jones’ disastrous 2023 season. He injured his neck, threw two touchdowns and six interceptions in six starts, then suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 8.

So while many fans wondered if the Giants were souring on Jones, Eisen said that talk popped up everywhere at the combine.

“The words I heard at the combine multiple times, two words, were ‘buyers remorse,'” Eisen said.

General manager Joe Schoen had already said the team planned to add a quarterback this offseason, but Eisen’s report likely puts the Giants in play for one of the elite quarterbacks in the upcoming draft. If the Giants do target a quarterback in the draft, they would probably not be able to land Caleb Williams, Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels, widely expected to go 1-2-3 in some order.

The Giants own the No. 6 pick, and former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is expected to still be available. In fact, a USA Today mock draft Monday afternoon had the Giants grabbing McCarthy. Or the Giants could trade that pick for draft capital and take a chance on someone like Michael Penix or Bo Nix further down in the first round.

Whatever they decide, Eisen’s report makes it seem Jones’ days in New York are numbered.
