Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Dough Pederson cut tight end Josh Pederson earlier in the week only for the team to re-sign him days later.

It’s notable because Josh is Doug’s son.

Heading towards the end of training camp, Pederson was fifth on the depth chart, and like every other team in the NFL, the team was trying to cut down to their 53-man roster.

When asked about having to cut his son, the elder Pederson joked that he had given his son bad news before.

Then he later said that he and general manager Tom Baalke had to treat his son like every other player on the team.

“I’d want to tell him,” he said. “Trent would want to visit with him as well, and I definitely want to talk to him and just let him know — I mean, he’s been through this process before with a couple other teams last year. And I’m very familiar with it, obviously, as a former player, and walk him through the process and let him know that everything’s going to be OK.”

And he was right because they re-signed him the next day, which is probably why Pederson was ready to joke about it Tuesday.
