As the Philadelphia Eagles head to Seattle to face the Seahawks on Monday Night Football and look to maintain their hold on the NFC’s top seed after losing two straight games, they may be without one of their most important pieces on offense.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is questionable for Monday’s game with an illness.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the news Sunday morning. Hurts’ sickness worsened Saturday night into Sunday morning and still hopes to play, but didn’t travel to Seattle with the team so as to not get anyone else sick.

If Hurts is unable to play, 2014 Heisman Trophy winner and NFL journeyman Marcus Mariota will get the start in his place.

Philadelphia Inquirer Eagles beat writer Jeff McLane added some additional context to Schefter’s report, saying it’s a good sign that Hurts is traveling but the team can’t predict how he’ll feel tomorrow. “Expectation right now is that he would be cleared to play, but that he won’t likely play at 100 pct,” McLane added.

Hurts’ play has helped the Eagles to a 10-3 start. He’s thrown for 19 touchdowns and rushed for an additional 12, which is third-most in the NFL. Philadelphia is looking to get the top seed in the NFC for the second straight season following 2022’s 14-3 season which ended with the Eagles taking a 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.

Monday’s game is also a big spot for Seattle, as the Seahawks are 6-7 and currently in a five-way tie with the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons, and New Orleans Saints for the final NFC wild-card spot.
