The Kansas City Chiefs got a little bit of unexpected unfortunate news on Monday evening as their depth at the running back room took a bit of a hit due to a six-game suspension to one of the backs currently on the team’s practice squad.

According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Chiefs practice squad running back Jerrion Ealy has been suspended for the next six games for a violation of the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

Ealy was a star running back for the Ole Miss Rebels in college, even setting a school record for all-purpose yards in a game with 273 against Southeastern Louisiana. Ealy signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent in 2022.

Even though Ealy is just a practice squad player and his suspension is unlikely to impact Kansas City all that much going forward, the NFL world still had plenty to say about his suspension with many blasting the running back for getting suspended as a practice squad player.

Pelissero reports that with Ealy suspended, the Chiefs are filling his spot on the practice squad by filled Ealy’s spot by bringing back veteran wide receiver Marcus Kemp, who the team signed as an undrafted free agent out of college back in 2017.
