For now, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones appears to have his head coach Mike McCarthy remaining at the position for a bit, but that doesn’t mean he can’t anticipate a replacement for the future.

While the Detroit Lions and Dan Campbell will face his team on Saturday, Jones said he noticed a similarity between Campbell and a Dallas legend.

“I actually thought the type of thing that we see in Dan is so football-appropriate for the game,” Jones told The Dallas Morning News. “Every time that I look at him, I see Jason Witten, really.”

This doesn’t appear to be imminent by any means. Jones made it clear if there were any decisions to be made in regard to the head coaching job about an extension, or lack thereof, that would take place in the offseason.

“That’ll have a course that seeks its own time frame,” Jones told NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. “I don’t do anything of that sort until the season is over.”

Those offseason talks would obviously take a turn should the Cowboys be in the playoffs.

As far as Witten’s future in coaching goes, he’s not new to the gig. As a matter of fact, he just led Liberty Christian High School to the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Division II state championship earlier this month.

He was hired just days after retiring from the NFL following 17 seasons — 16 of them with the Cowboys.
