If the New York Jets came around to Cam Newton, the former NFL MVP knows the price he wants them to pay.

Newton has been out of the league for a few years now. But in his heyday, few were more exciting to watch. Newton excelled in college at Auburn, where he won a National Championship and the Heisman Trophy. Then he became the No. 1 overall pick for the Carolina Panthers. Cam led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50 and won the NFL MVP award that season.

Newton eventually exited the NFL after a brief stint with the New England Patriots. But is he on the comeback trail?

ESPN personality and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III wanted to know the answer. He asked Newton on his podcast, ‘RG3 and The Ones,’ on whether he’ll answer the Jets’ call if they come around the block.

“Goin’ back to control? You not about to sit up there and penny-pinch me bro,” Newton told Griffin.

“I’m not about to sit up there and sign no $5.5 million deal, bro. Those days are over with. I’d be wasting my time. I would tell you if you don’t think I can be on a roster right now? I could. But it’s bigger than that. Am I in shape right now? **** yeah. But in any situation, I’m gonna sit up there and analyze it as much as possible.”

Newton stressed he didn’t want to walk into an awkward situation with either Zach Wilson or Aaron Rodgers and that he’d want to know about that. And that he doesn’t make ‘impulse decisions.’

Whether the Jets come around for Cam is yet to be seen.
