The Houston Texans made a big splash on Tuesday in hiring DeMeco Ryans as their next head coach. The Texans made the choice almost directly after holding a second interview with the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator.

It didn’t take long for the NFL world to react to the hire, nor did it take long for notable names to chime in as well. Texans legend J.J. Watt, one of Ryans’ teammates, seemed absolutely ecstatic about the hire.

“LET’S GOOOOOOO!!!!!!” Watt loudly exclaimed on Twitter. “You want to reenergize and reignite the incredible Houston fan base, this is a hell of a start!! Cannot wait to see what Meco does. One of the best teammates & leaders I’ve ever been around. #HTown,” he continued.

Watt and his voice obviously carry quite a lot of weight in Houston. This even after the multi-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year left for the Arizona Cardinals for his final two seasons in the NFL. It’s hard to find a more ringing endorsement possible as Watt is arguably the most visible and best Houston Texans player in franchise history.

So, DeMeco Ryans scored a heck of an endorsement just a few hours after his hiring was announced. Suffice it to say, he’ll be beloved in this honeymoon phase. And for his sake, he can overcome the fact that the last two coaches in Houston spent only a season at the helm.
