Kyle Shanahan Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The good news for San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is that he has been to three Super Bowls in his coaching career – twice as a head coach and once as an offensive coordinator. But the bad news is, he has lost all three of those games, largely due to the way his team has played in the fourth quarter.

As the social media account College Football Report points out, Kyle Shanahan now has a winless 0-3 record in Super Bowls as a play-caller and his teams have been massively outscored in the second half of those games.

“Kyle Shanahan When Calling Plays in the Super Bowl:

• 0-3 Record
• Outscored 29-74 in 2nd Half/OT,” College Football Report wrote in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Shanahan was the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons when they blew a massive second-half lead to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI. He was also the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers when they blew a fourth-quarter lead against the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV. And now, his team blew a second-half lead to lose to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII.

Obviously, this is horrible news for Shanahan, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

It’s safe to say that Shanahan has not been great in the second half of the Super Bowl.
