The Baltimore Ravens were able to notch a victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night, but the win was thanks to their strong defense, not due to their offensive production. And star quarterback Lamar Jackson is very aware of that.

The Ravens defense forced four turnovers in the game to keep the Chargers off the board and pave the way for the 20-10 victory even though the offense wasn’t always making the most out of the opportunities. But it sounds like Lamar Jackson understands just how nice it is to be able to rely on such a dominant defense.

“Our defense was playing lights out all night and we weren’t doing what we usually do [which is] putting points on the board for those guys,” Jackson said according to the team’s website. “But I’m grateful that we have a great defense, because without them, I don’t know how this game would have went.”

With the win, the Ravens improve to 9-3 and have clearly established themselves as a legitimate Super Bowl contender this season. And while Jackson is certainly an MVP-caliber quarterback with a dual-threat playmaking ability, it’s clear that the team’s dominance all starts with its strong defense.
