On Monday afternoon, the NFL world was given quite a shock when former MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson announced that he had requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens earlier in the month. But even though it’s clear that Jackson is ready to move on from the Ravens, it’s also clear that one potential landing spot will not be a possibility, after all.

On Monday, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was asked if the team’s decision to pick up the fifth-year option for starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa meant that the Dolphins would not be pursuing Lamar Jackson or any other starting quarterback. And McDaniel gave a pretty clear answer: absolutely.

“That’s why you pick up a fifth-year option,” McDaniel said according to Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. “That’s why you, that’s how you do it. That’s why you pick the option up as soon as you know you’re going to. So to, to kind of as opposed to speaking, having an action speak, to really squash any of that an unnecessary direction or chatter.”

There has been concern about the health of Tagovailoa after he suffered multiple concussions during the 2022 NFL season. But it appears the Dolphins are willing to give him a chance to play this season.
