Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson won’t play in the team’s Wild Card game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Jackson’s decision was met with harsh criticism, but former quarterback Robert Griffin III defended the former MVP on Saturday.
If anyone would know about injuries in the postseason and their effects, RGIII would probably top the list. Griffin III infamously hurt his knee in a playoff game in January 2013. He marveled and excited Washington fans and the NFL with his brilliant play before the injury, but wasn’t quite the same after. So it wasn’t a surprise when the former star defended the decision on Jackson.
“Anyone saying Lamar Jackson should just ‘brace it up and go play’ REGARDLESS of the extent of his knee injury needs to get their head out of their ass,” Griffin staunchly tweeted.

Jackson has a lot of reasons why he shouldn’t play on Sunday. Not just simply for his health and well-being, but the 2019 NFL MVP is due a new contract imminently. The Ravens still may franchise tag him, but the risk there is very high. The NFL Playoffs have high stakes, but it’s not outrageous to suggest he miss the game. Star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, for example, will miss Miami’s playoff game against Buffalo Sunday after suffering another concussion.
Tyler Huntley is set to start the Ravens‘ playoff game against the Bengals on Sunday in place of Jackson.
