The Philadelphia Eagles were dealt a big blow in Week 16 when right tackle Lane Johnson went down with a core muscle injury and it looked like he would need surgery. But in a surprising turn of events, he’s returned to practice and it looks like he’s preparing to play for the team in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Lane Johnson revealed that he will need surgery on the core muscle injury after the season, but he’s putting off the surgery to be back with the team for the playoffs, saying “the only reason I’m coming back is because I think we have a chance to be something special.”

“I’m confident,” Johnson said according to Reuben Frank of NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com. “We’ve rehabbed real well. Today was good and looking forward to next week. It’s just one of those things you’ve got to bandage up and just go out and play. It’s very common among hockey players. It’s a little different in the trenches. But I’ll make it work.”

Fortunately for Johnson, he’ll have one more week of rehab after the Eagles earned the first-round bye in the playoffs with the top overall record in the NFC. That bye seems to be helping the team in more ways than one.
