Detroit Lions star running back Jahmyr Gibbs had an excellent game on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, which played a big factor in his team coming away with the victory. After the game, he was hit with one of the NFL’s famous “random” drug tests, which may not be so random after all.

Gibbs has been an integral piece of the Lions offense all season in his first year in the NFL, providing a lightning-quick compliment in the Lions backfield to the power running from veteran running back David Montgomery.

The former Alabama standout starred yet again for the Lions in their Christmas Eve game, rushing for 80 yards while also hauling in four receptions for 20 yards. He also found the endzone twice for some crucial scores that helped the Lions pull away from the Vikings in this matchup.

It was actually such a good performance that the NFL decided to drug test Gibbs after the game. He took to Instagram to share a story of the note from the league to report to the drug-testing area “ASAP”.

It’s obviously pure speculation that this drug test for Gibbs is related to his performance in any way. He has had plenty of great games this season where he has had great games where he was not issued a drug test.

That being said, this is certainly not the first time we have seen someone get drug tested by the NFL after a great performance, coincidence or not.

Only the NFL truly knows how random these drug tests truly are. But it is at the very least interesting that this happened to Gibbs on Sunday night.
