Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley was widely considered to be on the hot seat even entering into Thursday night’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders, and it seemed like the embarrassing 63-21 loss sealed his fate, as well as the fate of general manager Tom Telesco.

On Friday afternoon, the Los Angeles Chargers officially announced that both Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco had been fired.

“I want to thank Tom and Brandon for their hard work, dedication and professionalism, and wish both them and their great families nothing but the best,” Los Angeles Chargers team owner Dean Spanos said in a statement.

“These decisions are never easy, nor are they something I take lightly – especially when you consider the number of people they impact,” Spanos continued in his statement. “We are clearly not where we expect to be, however, and we need new vision. Doing nothing in the name of continuity was not a risk I was willing to take. Our fans have stood strong through so many ups and downs and close games. They deserve more. Frankly, they’ve earned more. Building and maintaining a championship-caliber program remains our ultimate goal. And reimagining how we achieve that goal begins today.”

Telesco had been the team’s general manager since 2013, helping lead the Chargers to the postseason three times during his time with the team. Staley became the Chargers’ head coach in 2021 and made the playoffs once, losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars last season in the wild card round.
