The New England Patriots fell to 2-9 on the season after their fourth straight loss on Sunday to the New York Giants. And this has unsurprisingly led to the team making a big decision at the quarterback position.
Third-year quarterback Mac Jones was benched on Sunday in favor of Bailey Zappe, which has happened multiple times throughout this season.
Many thought that last week’s loss for the Patriots could be the final straw when it comes to Mac Jones as a starting quarterback. And that indeed appears to be the case if Wednesday’s practice for the Patriots is any indication.
According to Mark Daniels of Mass Live, Bailey Zappe received the majority of the first-team snaps at practice for the Patriots. The other first-team snaps were handled by undrafted rookie quarterback Malik Cunningham.
As for Jones, he handled the Patriots scout team, which entails trying to resemble the Chargers’ offense to prepare the Patriots’ defense. This is typically a role that is reserved for quarterbacks who are buried deep on the depth chart.
No announcement has officially been made regarding the Patriots starting quarterback for their Week 13 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
But it sure seems like Bailey Zappe will be the starter moving forward. Considering this, it also seems very possible that Mac Jones may have played his final snap in New England.
