The Baltimore Ravens have experienced a few musical chairs at the running back position ever since J.K. Dobbins tore his Achilles, which should effectively end his 2023 NFL season. We say should because Dobbins is said to be rehabbing with Aaron Rodgers, and though he’s made no proclamations that he’d return this season, like Rodgers, we’re not keeping anything off the table.

Gus Edwards is currently the team’s leading rusher (478 yards), though he’s only ahead of quarterback Lamar Jackson. Others involved in Baltimore’s rushing attack this season include the likes of Justice Hill, Keaton Mitchell, and Melvin Gordon. Veteran Kenyan Drake also made a brief cameo earlier in the season as well.

So with that, it would certainly behoove the Ravens to have — at the very least — scour the trade market at the running back position ahead of last week’s trade deadline. And apparently, the team’s All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl corner, Marlon Humphrey, thought the Ravens were ready to pounce on a trade for Derrick Henry.

“I’m just gonna be completely honest with you,” Humphrey said, via Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports. “And being that it didn’t happen, it doesn’t really matter. I was sitting here minding my business. . . . I got a text [that] somebody was gonna be suiting up in purple. I got a text that somebody was gonna walk into Baltimore, Maryland, [with] a height [of about] 6-4. I got a text that there was a very high chance that a guy that usually goes by ‘King’ was gonna be in purple and black in M&T Bank Stadium very soon.

“I was about 85% sure that King Henry would be suiting up for the Ravens. It did not happen. My source was incorrect. He had me thinking it was a done deal.”

It, obviously, was not a done deal, but it was fun to daydream of a backfield that includes Jackson and Henry for a momentary lapse there.
