Matt Ryan suffered one of the most historic collapses in NFL history back in 2017 when his Atlanta Falcons blew a 28-3 third-quarter lead to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI. And he was likely feeling some déjà vu on Saturday when his Indianapolis Colts blew an even bigger lead against the Minnesota Vikings.
At one point during Saturday afternoon’s game, the Colts were leading the Vikings by a score of 33-0. Unfortunately for them, Minnesota came storming back and won 39-36 in overtime. And Matt Ryan got absolutely roasted as a result.
After the game, Matt Ryan addressed the brutal collapse, saying “anything can happen.”
“I’ve played in this league a long time to know that a lot of different things can happen,” Ryan said after the game according to Stephen Holder of ESPN.com. “Anything can happen. You just have to keep your head down and keep going and find ways to make plays when they present themselves. It’s not much. It’s a handful of plays in a game. It’s three or four plays from an offensive perspective that we’ve got to find ways to execute, and it’s a win. We just didn’t make them.”
While it wasn’t all Ryan’s fault, a collapse like that certainly isn’t something you want to happen to you twice.
