The New York Jets found themselves in a difficult situation after losing future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a season-ending injury. For now, Zach Wilson is the team’s starter in Rodgers’ absence, but if he struggles, the team could be prepared to replace Rodgers with another former MVP.

According to New York Jets and Giants insider Connor Hughes of SNY, the Jets are planning for Zach Wilson to be their quarterback for the remainder of the season. But if he struggles, the Jets are prepared to explore other options – and those options could include former NFL MVP Matt Ryan.

“Wilson is this team’s QB right now. The plan is for that to be the case through the remainder of the season. Plans, though, can change. They will, too, if Wilson struggles immensely against the Cowboys and Patriots over the next two weeks. I think early next week NY will add a passer. He’ll be on the practice squad learning the offense for a chunk,” Hughes wrote on Sunday.

“If the Jets lose these next two they will begin to prepare him to be the starter. They are not going to punt by riding Wilson no matter what. There’s too much talent on this roster. A name to watch, as @DMRussini said, is Colt McCoy. A wild card would be Matt Ryan.”

Ryan is not currently in the NFL as he works for CBS as an NFL analyst. But he has made it clear that despite taking the studio job, he does not consider himself retired from the NFL.

That would certainly be an interesting development.
