The Denver Broncos and quarterback Russell Wilson probably didn’t envision a last-place finish in the AFC West. But that’s their current trajectory after a Christmas Day humbling at the hands of Baker Mayfield and the Los Angeles Rams.

The Broncos fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett and curiously replaced him with Jerry Rosburg, the man Hackett originally hired to help him with his clock management and in-game decision-making. Broncos legend Peyton Manning has already ruled himself out of consideration for the job.

With Wilson facing online criticism after the latest nationally broadcasted embarrassment, several Broncos wide receivers circled the wagons around Wilson this week.

The pro-Wilson sentiment is shared by Kansas City Chiefs‘ practice squad running back Melvin Gordon, who took to Twitter to comment on Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy’s pro-Wilson message.

“Preach!” Gordon tweeted about Jeudy’s post. “Can’t talk too much [because] we play this week. But Russell Wilson, you already know you [are] Him, gang! The slander is beyond crazy.”

Gordon and Wilson were Wisconsin Badgers teammates during Wilson’s one-year stint in Madison during the 2011 season.

Gordon signed a two-year, $16 million contract with the Broncos in 2020. He signed with the Broncos earlier this year on a one-year deal before the franchise waived him in November after his fifth fumble of the season. He has since called himself a “scapegoat” for the Broncos’ season-long troubles.

Gordon (seen above following the Broncos’ loss to the New York Jets on Oct. 23) signed with the Chiefs practice squad on Nov. 29th.
